Lake Travis, located in central Texas, USA, is a reservoir named after William B. Travis. Its primary function is flood-control, and it has a water height range of almost 100 feet. In the wake of the 2018 Llano River flood, which feeds into the Colorado River, Lake Travis’ depth increased by 20 feet in just 24 hours. With an expansive surface area of 30 square miles, it has the largest storage capacity of all the seven reservoirs, known as the Highland Lakes. The lake stretches over 65 miles upriver from western Travis County and into southern Burnet County. It has a highly serpentine course and ends at Max Starcke Dam, southwest of Marble Falls. Besides being a water supply and flood-control mechanism, the lake is also used for power generation and recreation. Additionally, the Pedernales River, which is a significant tributary of the Colorado River, flows into the lake from the southwest corner of Travis County.
