Founded in 1887, Cedar Park did not become an incorporated city until 1973. The town’s name was derived from its abundance of mountain cedar trees and the presence of a park. This park was established after the Cluck Family, early settlers and landowners in the area, sold land to the Austin and Northwestern Railroad under the condition that a portion be utilized as a park. Despite the fact that the cedar trees were not native to the area and were likely brought by passing livestock, the production of cedar posts became a lucrative industry for settlers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Cedar Park’s name may be simple, but the history of the resilient individuals who forged a life in this region is rich and complex. Explore the town’s timeline and historic sites to learn more.
