Situated on the eastern periphery of the American Southwest in Central Texas, Austin stands as the capital of the Lone Star State, Texas. Its origins can be traced back to the 1830s, when the earliest Anglo-American pioneers migrated to this part of Mexico. The settlement of Waterloo, founded in 1837 by these settlers on the banks of the Colorado River, served as the area’s inaugural permanent community. Eventually, in 1839, the hamlet’s name changed to Austin, honoring Stephen F. Austin, recognized as the “Father of Texas,” and it became the capital of the Republic of Texas.
